Great leaders live a life according to what they preach. They set examples in whichever field they work. In administration they ensure justice. Everything is based on righteousness. Kings are benevolent rulers. They feel the pulse of the people. So people also emulate their examples and life style. They live honest and simple lives. They engage good advisers who are men of wisdom and impeccable integrity. Kings seek advice which they seriously follow . They know the dictum, 'as the king so the subjects'. Such kings are saintly and are known as 'raja rishis'.

Great importance is given to leadership development. Leaders liberally practice trust and delegation. They choose the right persons forvarious tasks. In war they observe fairness. Fighting is suspended during night. Generals and soldiers fight against equals only.

To cite an example Sri Ram, according to mythology,an incarnation of God ,is one of the greatest democrats. He respects people's view. He sacrifices all his personal comforts, position and privileges for honouring his father King Dasaratha's word. This is an offshoot of a promise given by the king to one of the queens. He never questions the justification behind the promise though many do. He obeys his father and takes even adversity as a blessing. Optimism is the core of his philosophy.

He always honours his word. When it comes to declaring a war or fighting an enemy he gives polite warnings to the enemy ,at the same time advocating peace. War is considered only as a last resort. It is for upholding a principle in the interest of the people and not for material or territorial gain. It is for protection of righteousness.
