It seems the golden years of life have passed. That is, the years in which one does not have to worry, care or truly fear anything in life.

With childhood's end came the end of what I considered the best era of television for kids. Now, watching nieces and nephews also comes hand-in-hand with watching some of the most boring, annoying, and seemingly cracked-out cartoons on TV (with the exception of Sponge Bob, of course.)

Maybe I am too old to currently judge programs that are beneath my age level, or maybe I just secretly miss watching these childhood gems. Either way, here is my list of the top ten programs watched during my youth.

10) Salute Your Shorts

This Nickelodeon program is probably best known for its title, which came from the 1986 book, "Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp," by Steve Slavkin.

The show is based on a group of campers who seem to always be quarreling with each other and the camp counselors. A common prank done in the show happens to be stealing another camp member's boxers and hanging them from a flagpole, also attributing to the title.

From 1991-1992, "Salute Your Shorts" brought us plenty of laughs from the gang at Camp Anawanna, and who can forget Donkeylips?

9) Doug

Doug was a program easy to fall in love with.

The show starred sixth-grader Doug Funnie and his group of friends, including Skeeter Valentine, Patti Mayonnaise and his dog Porkchop.

A cartoon created by Jim Jenkins, the show ran originally on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1994, then was moved to Disney from 1996 to 1999.

When the show switched to Disney a few changes were made, such as a different theme song, the addition of a new little sister to the Funnie family, and Patti Mayonnaise's new haircut.

From the show, a full-length film was created, called "Doug's 1st Movie."

8) Land of the Lost

A Saturday-morning series on ABC, "Land of the Lost" was an adventurous show to watch.

The Porter Family, which consisted of father Tom and kids Kevin and Annie, falls through a time portal in their jeep and ends up in another universe, filled with dinosaurs.

With all the Nick shows you did, I'm surprised Hey Dude and Clarissa Explains it All didn't make the list!
