Arthritis affects people of all ages. Even though the majority of people who suffer from arthritis are older, there are many children who suffer from it as well. The most common places to experience problems with arthritis are the elbow and the knees. Synovial fluid is the name given to the lubricant present in the joints and the cartilage is the special tissue, which absorbs shocks and ensures that the ends of the bones are protected. When this Synovial fluid is damaged or is absent, the joints rub together and can cause great discomfort and pain. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder which means the immune system which is supposed to defend the body starts attacking the body’s tissues and causes abnormal growth of tissue.

Chances are you have been to doctor after doctor and have been put on various medications with great side effects. You may have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on treatment. You need not look further. Antioxidants are the way to go if you are looking for a way to treat arthritis. They help the cartilage remain in tact. The treatment of arthritis can be as simple as eating plenty of fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables will minimize joint damage. Carbohydrates, sugars, and processed foods should not be consumed or should be consumed in smaller amounts if you are looking to treat arthritis. However, eating too few carbohydrates can cause fatigue and give you the illusion that you are depressed. Balance is the key. Green salad with lemon juice, cooked vegetables like pumpkin, spices like ginger, coriander, asafetida, and turmeric all contribute to the well being of the joints.

Fruits such as apples, oranges, papaya, and grapes should be eaten liberally. The vitamin E and vitamin C found in these fruits prevent the breakdown of cartilage and helps to create new cartilage. Be sure to go low on tea, sugar, yogurt, chocolate and tempting spicy and fried foods. A radical change in your lifestyle can do wonders for arthritis.
