I Will Not Be Using it This Summer

Summer time seemed to happily creep up to me last year and before I knew it I would need to be putting sun screen on my son who was just under a year old at the time. Despite looking at several different stores I was less than enthused at the selection of choices that I had. Since the days were shin
ing bright and were only going to start shining brighter I didn't want to purchase sun screen off the internet and wait for it to be delivered. I decided to choose the best possible choice, which was Earth's Best Organic Sunblock.

I was no stranger to the company Earth's Best, I had tried the Earth's Best Organic Diaper Relief Ointment and the Earth's Best Organic Shampoo and Body Wash on my son and my son had also tried some of their food products. It was a brand that I didn't have any reason to doubt and to me the ingredients seemed harmless enough. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, zinc oxide is usually the common ingredient to make diaper cream, are the active ingredients in Earth's Best Organic Sunblock. It wasn't until after buying the sun screen that I began to do some research about the titanium dioxide.

Titanium dioxide is the naturally occurring oxide of titanium. Although I was at first reading it was safe and then it wasn't on the web I finally came across that titanium dioxide had recently been classified by International Agency for Research on Cancer to be possibly carcinogen to humans. That was enough right there for me to decide to find another sun screen for my son.

To discuss whether or not the Earth's Best Organic Sunblock works well as a sun screen for children seems irrelevant to me because I couldn't recommend it to anyone knowing what the ingredients were. In all honestly though I will admit that the sun screen did in fact work well, as the time that I used it for my son he did not get a sun burn. I still have the bottle of Earth's Best Organic Sunblock but I have no intention of using it again on my son, or for anyone else for that matter. This year before Summer is here I am going to do my best to find a new sun screen for my son and I definitely will make sure that the ingredients are all safe and healthy.

  • Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the active ingredients in Earth's Best Organic Sunblock.
  • Titanium dioxide has been classified to be possibly carcinogen to humans.
  • I have no intention of using it again on my son.

Hi, I'm wondering where you researched about titanium? When titanium is in powder form can be dangerous to lungs and cause problems in the respiratory system, however, once it is in an aqueous base, there is no longer a threat of breathing it in. In sunscreen (unless it's powder) titanium poses no health risk. The addition of it onto the carcinogens list is specifically related to it's effect on lungs while in powder form and the people who work in the industry directly handing the powder form of the chemical. The new controversy over titanium posing health risks is within the realm of nano-technology.

In looking for the most effective, safest sunscreen for my family, I've come across a lot of information including this article. Regarding this article, the IARC findings suggest a link to exposure in an industrial setting (inhaling in dust form), not in consumer products. A few clicks ago, I read that sand inhaled over time can cause cancer, too. You may find a product with fewer safety concerns, but the Earth's Best Sunblock was on the short list of most "safest product lists" I've come across.

oh it's so hard to find sunscreens with safe ingredients. Look into safecosmetics.org. They have comprehensive lists of companies and cosmetic products with safety ratings on all the products.

Good luck finding a sunblock that does not have titanium dioxide. It is widely used in UV products because it is high reflectiveness.
