I have a million little black dresses in my closet and I am sick of every one of them. Of course nothing is wrong with them except for that I have had them for years and am sick of looking at them. I was short on money and long on time, so I decided to reinvent a few of my little black dresses with a few nips, tucks, and embellishments.

Here are some ideas you can use to reinvent your little black dresses as well:

Wide Belt:

Adding a wide belt is a great way to update your little black dress into a great fall trend. Look for wide braided belts. This is a simple update to the little black dress because all you have to do it buckle it on and you are ready.

To dress down a black dress or add a vintage look wear a worn out brown leather belt.
A man’s belt would work well.

Change the length of the Hem

For about $10 you can take you little black dress to the tailor or dry cleaners and have them shorten it. Ankle length dresses can be made into a fabulous length that hits just below the knee. This look is huge right now with some tall leather boots.

You can add length to a dress that falls right above the knee by having the tailor remove the hemstitch. If there is not enough fabric here try adding some black lace at the bottom of the dress. The key is to get you old black dress to a length that is just below the knee since that is the trend this fall.

Add a Vintage Brooch

Costume jewelry and vintage brooches are still huge. If you have a little black dress with a V neck attach it right at the bottom of the V.

Change Out The Buttons

Gold and other metallics are huge again this fall. Take a trip to the local fabric shop and look for some great gold buttons. You can simply cut off your old buttons and attach the new ones yourself.

You can also add buttons to highlight a feature of your little black dress. For example, a plain sheath little black dress can have a completely new look by sewing colorful buttons all over the dress in a pattern. Make sure you space the buttons evenly for a professional look.
