The Fox Theatre
The Fox Theater is the central hub and heart of Midtown. Broadway shows, movies, and special events are held at this historical building on Peachtree Street. Many visitors often mistake it for the Lowe’s Grand Theater that the Premier of Gone With the Wind was held at. While fire consumed and destroyed the Lowe’s Grand Theater, the Fox has managed to avoid destruction a number of times. It has been restored to fabulous grandeur and is truly a gem.
The Atlanta's Fox Theatre was originally the Yaarab Temple Shrine Mosque. It was designed in the late 1920's as headquarters for the 5,000-member Shriners organization. Currently more than $20 million has been spent in the restoration project. The Fox has its own in house Restoration Staff. It is made up of highly skilled artisans directed by an expert in Historic Preservation. The Restoration Staff is always working to restore and preserving the significant architectural features of the Fox in a historically accurate manner. No detail is too small. Special attention is paid to the decorative surfaces, the masonry and cast stone exterior, the furniture collection, and the archive of artifacts and documentation. This makes it a great stop not only for music lovers, but for history buffs as well.
The Fox Theater is located at 660 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30308.
