Many people dream of running a business at home. The idea of being their own boss is very seductive. But, how does one go about starting a dream business in one's home? Here are some tips on how to start a business at home as an Accountant.

The first thing needed to start this type of business is, obviously, a bachelor's degree in Accounting and a CPA. CPA stands for Certified Public Accountant. This means that a person has passed a certification test for public accountants that is administered by each state. To qualify to take the exam one usually must have earned a Bachelor's degree from an American University with a minimum number of hours earned in accounting. The requirements are set in each individual state.

There is not much that is needed to start an accounting business, past the bachelor's degree. The most urgent need is an office area. This should be furnished with a desk and file cabinet, computer and printer, and a telephone. Some type of accounting software for the computer is quite helpful, as well. It is also helpful to have some type of insurance to cover any errors and omissions that might be made.

Accounting services are needed by most people and businesses. To be successful as a new accountant a person needs to be able to show people how their services can improve lives. Being creative will help with this. The two main areas that most accountants fall into are tax preparation and financial services to small businesses. Financial services that are needed by businesses can include payroll preparation, tax planning, and business setup. There are many businesses that are not large enough to employ a full-time bookkeeper. This means they will need to obtain those services elsewhere. Most businesses prefer to higher a Certified Public Accountant to keep their finances in order.
