Since its opening in 2001, the Muddy Cup Coffee House in Hudson, New York, has been a mainstay of the Warren Street scene. With its relaxed, artist-friendly vibe and unpretentious, comforting atmosphere, the coffee house fits in perfectly with the city's artistic renaissance, and has become a popular hangout for both locals and weekenders. The Muddy Cup is the perfect place to rest and enjoy some refreshment after a long day of gallery hopping, antique shopping, or sightseeing in Hudson. The Muddy Cup Experience
I stop by the Muddy Cup Hudson on a beautiful, sunny afternoon. The sidewalk tables outside the coffee house are full of customers enjoying the nice weather and people watching on Warren Street. Climbing the short flight of stairs and entering the Muddy Cup, located at 742 Warren Street, is like stepping into a calm little oasis where all the cares and concerns of the day seem to recede into the background. During my visit, my companion and I enjoy some "house coffee" in the front room of the coffee house, a sunny space with a large window that looks out on Warren Street.
One of the chief pleasures of the Muddy Cup is the feeling of sinking into a comfy chair, or taking a seat at a cozy table, looking around and enjoying the low-key, laid back atmosphere. The vibe and design of the coffee house is best described as bohemian and eclectic, but not overdone. The light-filled front room (which was once a parlor or sitting room?) feels modern but rich in history with its deep crimson walls, a beautiful old fireplace mantle, pocket doors, original woodwork, and high ceilings.
