10 Memorable Movie Quotes
Movie quotes become memorable when the words trigger thoughts, feelings or memories. They cause us to examine the world we live in, remember moments when we felt a certain way and even laugh. Great movie quotes stick in our minds long after the movie is over.
1. "...my whole life was ordinary, and then we met and these amazing things started to happen...I feel like I could do anything..."
-Sarah Michelle Gellar "Amanda", Simply Irresistible
(20th Century Fox, 1999)
This memorable movie quote occurred after "Tom" (played by Sean Patrick Flanery) and "Amanda" floated to the ceiling during a passionate kiss. "Tom" was scared and trying to keep his distance while "Amanda" was attempting to hold onto their relationship.
I realized that when you fall in love, you love the person as well as the changes the relationship brings to your life. How I looked at situations, the pace of my everyday life, and even my future goals changed the instant I fell in love. Once I met my husband, life became "we" instead of "I."
2. "...white girls like you, creepin' up, takin our men, the whole world ain't enough, you gotta conquer our too."
-Kerry Washington as "Chenille", Save the Last Dance (MTV/Paramount, 2001)
"Sarah" (Julia Stiles) was happily in love with Chenille's black brother while "Chenille" was miserable in her relationship with her black boyfriend. This movie quote communicated the frustration and resentment "Chenille" felt.
Horror was my initial reaction to this movie quote, however, it says a lot about racism and jealousy in modern society. Racism is not only used to direct dislike towards someone, but also as a way of justifying why the world works the way it does. I can easily identify with "Chenille's" feeling of being trapped in a small, unfair world. However, it made me wonder if she was really stuck or if, indirectly, she had chose her life.
3. "...it's easier to believe the bad things..."
- Julia Roberts as "Vivian", Pretty Woman (Touchstone, 1990)
