For women, birth control is offered in a variety of methods, from abstinence to condoms to pills. With newest technology, the development of a new birth control ring, NuvaRing, provides women an additional alternative in the prevention of pregnancy and to regulate hormones. Understanding the proper use of NuvaRing, the side effects and contraindications, will aide women in making a more well informed decision regarding birth control choices.
NuvaRing, manufactured by Organon USA, is a two inch wide birth control ring inserted, vaginally, once per month. Regulating the fertility hormones, progestorone and estrogen, the NuvaRing vaginal birth control ring, provides the necessary hormones through sustained release, into the bloodstream thereby preventing pregnancy. In a woman, hormones are absorbed into the body through the plethera of blood vessels within the vaginal wall. With the appropriate bodily moisture and heat, the NuvaRing is prompted to release the proper level of hormones to prevent pregnancy by preventing monthly ovulation. Additionally, the regulation of progesterone and estrogen, by the NuvaRing vaginal birth control method, changes the hormonal influence of the uterus so as to prevent viable pregnancy from occurring.
Insertion of the NuvaRing birth control product is rather simple, occuring once per month. Performed at home, the ring is inserted vaginally at the cervix level. After three weeks of use, the vaginal NuraRing is removed, at home, and a new one is then inserted in seven days later. The disadvantage to the use of NuvaRing lies in the reminder to remove and inser the ring as required to ensure effectiveness against preventing pregnancy.
