It seems that as each week goes by this year we are eating more and more organic foods. Last year I made a goal to be eating 100% organic by the end of 2008. One of the foods that we are now buying and eating organic is apple sauce. The apple sauce that we have been getting is Mott's Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce.

I like to have applesauce on hand for a quick side dish to a potato meal as well as to have for toast. I am especially fond of apple sauce when I am feeling a bit under the weather and so I always try and have a jar on hand. The Mott's Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce is very good, they also have an original version but that has twice as much sugar. I can't really see why they would need to make an apple sauce with twice as much sugar because I find the unsweetened version to be plenty sweet and very tasty. The ingredients are only apples and water and I find that to taste plenty good, and am happy that they do not use any preservatives.

Obviously organic foods are going to be more expensive than the non-organic alternative but the price increase of Mott's Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce from their non-organic apple sauce of the same size is only about a dollar. It is a dollar more that I don't mind spending knowing that I myself will be eating something organic and more importantly I will feel good about feeding it to my son, who is also a big fan of the Mott's Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce.

Like most apple sauces the Mott's Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce needs to be refrigerated after you open it and should be eaten up within 10 days. I have never found this problem, although the jar is 23 oz I have always finished every last bit of it within 10 days. The jar states that apple sauce is made from real fruit which may contain seeds, stems or other pieces of natural fruit. I have never found a seed or a stem in the apple sauce though.

I would recommend the Mott's Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce to anyone who wanted an apple sauce that was organic. As I mentioned before I do my best to always have it on hand and when I run out I am always quick to replace it.
