WorldOfGood.com aims to provide a trusted platform where individuals can create positive change through commerce, as part of a global community. This distinctly Web 2.0 website is a collaboration between eBay Inc. and World of Good, Inc. and you can see the home page here.
According to the site WorldOfGood.com believe; "A growing number of individuals want to understand how the choices they make impact people and the planet. There is an important need for trusted information, and a need for transparency into how and where products are made. Our goal is to provide our community with the resources needed to make good choices and connect with others who share the same passion."
Members on the site are encouraged to blog, write articles and discuss how communities around the world can benefit from eCommerce platforms like eBay and how they can be used as a positive force behind the promotion of fair trade and ethical standards.
Links on the site lead to sections about empowering producers, ethical sourcing, shopping responsibly, social innovators and ways to make a difference. The discussion of the day and blog post of the day links also lead to some worthwhile, intelligent and well written content.
If you are using eBay or any similar method of international trading - and want to look toward a more ethical, fair trade business model - I can see this website proving highly informative and useful.
As I write this article the blog post of the day has been written by Jonathan C. Lewis, the volunteer, full-time CEO of MicroCredit Enterprises (www.MCEnterprises.org). This organisation offers loans to overseas microfinance institutions who, in turn, make tiny business loans to impoverished men and women, but mostly women so they can feed their kids. Apparently 88% of their clients are women which is actually pretty high by global standards. 70% of the poor are women with kids which Jonathan says speaks volumes about gender and generational injustice.
