A Girl's Room Ought to be Uniquely Decorated

Is your teen daughter the type who doesn't appreciate the frills and colors of a normal girl's room? That's not to say she has tacky taste just that her ideas on decorating lean towards the unique. It's okay to let her express herself and if you can come up with some funny or weird ideas of your own, she may develop a new found respect for you.

Some things teens like are clothes, shoes, jewelry, make up and music. One suggestion for decorating in a unique way is to glue or otherwise attach these items to the walls, ceiling, light switch and headboard. Unused cd's make perfect coasters and wind chimes. Flip-flops and sandals, no longer worn, can be attached to look as though they are climbing a wall. Sew pockets onto the lampshades and shirts onto the curtains. Shirts can also be scrunched onto a rod by threading the rod through the sleeves. Staple or otherwise affix jeans, belts, suspenders, colorful socks and even jewelry to the ceiling. Other things to attach to walls and ceilings are envelopes, books, pencils, purses, stuffed animals or old album covers.

Scarves are gorgeous when used for decorating. Tie one or more to the chain on a ceiling fan and allow it to dangle in the center of the room. Hang one or two over the existing lampshade. Tie several together, end to end, and attach the two ends of the arrangement to a wall. Use colorful clothes pins to hang photos, jewelry and purses. Tie scarves around doorknobs and allow to hang or wrap scarf all the way around for a whole new look to the knob.

Fasten sheets to the ceiling, with the bed in the corner, to form a curtain around the bed. Or place the bed in the center of the room and sew four sheets or lace pieces together into a giant rectangle. Find the center of the fabric and attach it to a point over the middle of the bed. Allow to drape all the way around the bed, to the floor.
