Senior Citizen Homes in Peoria, Illinois

Every Kind of Housing Availability One Needs is Here

I have found as I have gotten older that one's needs do change as far as your home goes. Certainly as children leave, the need for room is not as great. Further, in some cases, the desire to do a lot of yard work disappears; although that is certainly an individual choice.

In Peoria, Illinois, this is where I live, as with many places in the country, it is a "Buyer's Market" when it comes to real estate which currently gives the

Senior Citizen the largest possible choice in purchasing a home.

Most Senior Citizens I know are looking for affordable housing; they look for the lowest property tax rates yet, in the safest possible areas. Further, the relative locations of hospitals and modern "Prompt Cares" make a big difference where they choose to live.

Certainly a friend of ours has had two excellent homes. She had her own home in the Sherbrook subdivision off of Sheridan road in North Peoria. This provided a quiet and safe neighborhood partially because it was off the beaten path; yet, Proctor Hospital was only seven blocks away. Later, she moved to a two-bedroom apartment in a facility down Sheridan road which required no maintenance or taxes.

Another location that appeals to Senior Citizens for homes in Peoria, Illinois is an area called Willow Knolls which, interestingly enough is also off North Sheridan road (near Proctor Hospital) and extends to the next main "North-South" major main street; Knoxville Avenue. These houses are a little more expensive but, once again, they are off the beaten path.

One advantage Peoria has for the Senior Citizen is the fact that there a couple of major grocery stores that deliver. This makes obtaining food, especially in bad weather, much easier.

Peoria has three main hospitals. These hospitals are St. Francis, Methodist and Proctor. While both St. Francis and Methodist are downtown, they both maintain ersatz emergency rooms (Prompt Cares) all over the city; medical treatment is easy to find anywhere in the city.

If houses are not what a Senior Citizen wants there are several Condominium Groups located on North Allen Road which is near food, medicine as well as two major shopping malls.
