How to Land the Best Job of Your Life
Embed:
We're all on the search for a better job. One of my closest friends seems to always be going to another interview, always trying to climb the corporate ladder (or whatever it is she's doing . . . maybe she's just not content, but that's another story I'll address at another time). What are a few things to keep in mind when going to a job interview that can really aid you towards getting an acceptable offer by the company of your choice?BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF!
What are your strengths? And what's more, what are your weaknesses? Nobody really knows you better than yourself, but you have to be honest with yourself here (and your prospective employer). Being honest with yourself guards against your getting a cocky or arrogant attitude - things that do not work well in the world of careers.
Young people, keep in mind that you are starting at the bottom of the ladder. There is absolutely no way of suddenly jumping to the top. A good, well-paying, satisfying job is only gained through time and experience.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE LASTING ONES
It's so important to be clean and neat, and this includes your choice of dress. Believe me, no matter what job you are applying for or interviewing for, blue jeans will never ever cut it. You will only look sloppy and careless - and we don't care if you spend a hundred buckaroos on them either. They're jeans, and they DO NOT GO.
If you are indeed applying for a labor job, still same rule applies: NO JEANS. Instead, opt for neatly-pressed slacks. Otherwise, for all other job opportunity interviews, business attire is best. This may mean a pant-suit for women, and perhaps a regular suit for men. A toned-down color is best (no bright reds women, and no crazy lime greens men) such as navy or brown or beige. A neat shirt underneath is perfect.
And for women, use the cosmetics sparingly. And conservative dress is best - this is not time to dress like you're going to a club, ladies, or even for a night on the town - nobody cares what kind of body you have, and if they do then that's not the job you're looking for (or maybe you're not the type of person who should be reading this article, dear).
