Spider-Man Movie Legends: Mary Jane Watson Action Figure Review

Hasbro's Spider-Man Movie Legends line is made up of characters we've seen before, and also some parts we've seen before, on older figures. Out of the line, one figure stands out- Mary Jane Watson. She's the only female represented here, and although Mary Jane is a hugely important character in both the Spider-Man movies and comics (she's practically Peter Parker's reason d'etre), she hasn't been made in plastic form since 2002.

The history of this Spider-Man Movie Legends lineis an odd one. Hasbro had a tough year with regards to their newly licensed Marvel Comics brand. Fans had trepidations when Hasbro announced they would be releasing figures in what used to be ToyBiz's flagship Marvel line- Marvel Legends. When the new Hasbro figures were released, fans cried out against the simplistic sculpts, reduced articulation and rudimentary paint jobs. Then, upon announcement that Hasbro's Spider-Man movie figures were being shrunk from 7" to 5", fans once again had a hemorrhage.

The good news? Hasbro has begun to settle into things, the figures have gotten better, and they decided to try and make amends- thus the new Spider-Man Movie Legends line was born.

Spider-Man Movie Legends isn't the official title of the line, it's simply what fans have taken to calling it, due to the similarity in packaging, build-a-figure accessories, and height to the Marvel Legends line. This seems to be an apology from Hasbro for shrinking the Spider-Man movie figures down to a size that made them look asininely small when displayed next to prior Spider-Man figures. It's a nice concept, but the apology would probably have been better accepted if the figures were of a better quality than Mary Jane.
