Product Review: Moccona Classic Medium Roast Coffee

Last month, I bought a vacuum pack of Moccona coffee because it was on sale at my local supermarket. Moccona is a Dutch coffee brand and is very popular in Thailand, where I live. I've also seen it in the United States, but haven't bought it before as it was more expensive than my regular brand. Normally, I buy Nescafe coffee so I hadn't tried Moccona before. To be honest, I probably would never have bought it this time except that it was on sale and so was over $1.50 cheaper than my regular brand.

I bought the Moccona Classic Medium Roast as I'm not usually a lover of strong, dark coffees. The Moccona Classic Medium Roast, as it turns out, is just the right brew for me. It's strong enough that it has a full bodied taste, but not strong enough that it leaves a bitter taste after drinking. It's also strong enough though that I found I used less coffee per cup than I do of my normal Nescafe coffee.

When I first opened the pack of Moccona coffee, it smelled slightly stronger than the Nescafe coffee I'm used to. The first cup I made, I also found it a little too strong for my taste so, at first, thought the coffee would not be to my liking. On the second cup, though, I put only 2/3 of what I would normally use in the cup and was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed the flavor. The flavor is robust but smooth, it has a nice aroma, and it didn't leave any bitter aftertaste or give me indigestion.

Since then, I have used Moccona Classic Medium Roast in a latte (I added steamed milk to one teaspoon of Moccona and one teaspoon of sugar), and even made a Thai iced coffee from it (two teaspoons of Moccona, one teaspoon of sugar, and two tablespoons of condensed milk - add one cup of hot water to brew the coffee, then pour the whole lot over ice - delicious).
