Once upon a time, a loving and concerned mommy had a baby with severe infant eczema on her face. The tiny baby was born premature, and her pediatrician was reluctant to prescribe medication.
This mommy decided to start making her own natural products at home for herself and her family. She created basic, chemical-free skin care that was gentle enough not to irritate her baby's skin, and nourishing enough to improve its scaly, itchy texture. Within two weeks, the whole family had softer, less irritated skin.
This mother discovered that it was the chemicals in conventional products, including popular infant skin care lines, that were causing her children's eczema.
Knowing that other mothers have concerns about what they put on their children's skin, and that other babies like hers suffer from inflamed skin, this mommy started a company called The Natural Newborn.
My Search For Baby Wash
When my own son was born, we kept him out of the bath until his umbilical cord fell off. Then we ceremoniously gave him his first bath using an organic infant cleanser we had purchased from our health food store. Within moments, his poor body broke out all over in a horrific rash. We brought him to the pediatrician, but all he said was to keep an eye on it and come back later if it didn't disappear within a week.
We began to experiment with different cleansers, from Johnson & Johnson to California Baby. All of them caused this terrible rash and brought our son to tears.
Finally, while searching online, I discovered The Natural Newborn. Their unscented Soft Baby Wash had the least amount of ingredients I had ever seen on a bottle of baby wash; just six. It seemed a little steep at $8.00 for just 4 oz, but I was eager to find something that worked.
We stood over the bath with anti-itch creams at the ready and gently applied the Soft Baby Wash to our son's poor skin. Nothing. A little bit of the wash went a long way, and had a gentle foam. We washed his whole body, rinsed him, and pat him dry. No rash. We were elated.
