Tips to Avoid Impulse Buying at the Grocery Store

Have you ever noticed that whenever you go to the grocery store that you usually end up with at least one item that you did not mean to buy? This could be a snack that caught your eye or a toy or snack for the little one. Grocery stores purposely design
their stores to promote impulse buying. For example, think about what they place along the grocery store checkout line. There are magazines that they hope you will notice, candy they want your kids to beg for, and commonly forgotten and overlooked items. Impulse buys can waste money, ruin diets, or put someone on a budget in even more of crunch. Use these grocery store tips to save money and avoid those impulse buys.

1. Make a List

A lot of people make grocery lists but it can be easy to get tempted and stray from them. When making a list you should make sure that you include drinks and snacks and write down the amount and type. When making your list you should write everything down that you need in your rough draft. After you are done, you should rewrite the list and put it in the order that you will encounter it in the store. This will avoid any back tacking through the store. The less time you spend in the store, the less of a chance you will have to impulse buy any items.

2. Eat before Grocery Store visits

The worst thing that you can do when you are going grocery shopping is to go hungry. Hunger will provoke you to buy more food than you came for because it will sound good to you at the time. If you cannot eat before grocery shopping, go get a small bag of chips or trail mix and purchase it. Eat this through the store as you shop and it will curb your hunger until your grocery trip is done.

3. Do Not Pick up The Magazines

Unless you can afford the extra purchase, you should not pick up any of the magazines. Have you ever wondered why grocery stores put magazines at the checkout instead of in the magazine aisle? They want the titles to catch your eye so you will pick it up and you will not have enough time to finish the article so you will buy it to read it at home. If you have done this, than you have been the perfect customer for the grocery store impulse buy.

My husband, you give him a list and he'll mechanically follow it. I on the other hand, can never find the list, and even if I could, I'm prone to impulse shopping. So what do we do? As much as possible, my husband does the shopping. That's how we save. But this is a problem. How do I get the list to him? We tried a mixture of emails and phone calls with poor results. You see, I'm at home and I know what's on the shopping list. I've tried a number of on-line shopping lists with the goal to share the list that way but they haven't work, though lately I've been using a site, http://www.clanjive.com which has been working well. First it's free. In fact, I don't even have to create an account, I can use it anonymously. But I like two features, first there's a great input suggest feature that remembers entr
