The Chemistry of Love - Wonder Drug or Substance Abuse?

Women’s bodies release a hormone during sex which causes them to attach emotionally to their partner. This hormone is called Oxytocin (Ox-see-toe-sin).

The effects of this can be very confusing, for me, it’s the kiss of death. In one case I had not romantically attached to a man who was perfect for me - great looking, well educated, successful career and very kind who was very interested in me, still nothing. Not a drop of Oxytocin to be found. Yet with a different, man who is very handsome, down to earth, great sense of humor, I found to be very likable. He had me spitting Oxytocin all over the place. I became so attached to this man it was like an addiction. His voice, his smile, I was hooked. The less I saw him the more I wanted him and when I did see him I got re-hooked all over again and jonesing for more.

This Oxytocin is a very dangerous chemical. It can make a sensible woman fall in love and perhaps choose the wrong man. It seems to select at random and cause you to fall for someone right away without having a true sense of who they are.

When we feel that elusive and powerful “Zing” there is no telling what might happen. Often times we can tell how far we are willing to take the relationship right from the start, simply because of the “zing”. If there is no “Zing” we’ll probably forget all about him that night in our sleep if not sooner.

So how can you fight “Zing”? If your body is falling in love without you, what can you do to cease the takeover? If there was some way to stop the production of this hormone I would do it in a heartbeat and make my heart stop beating for him. Or would I? The high is so sweet and so amazing yet the crash is so hard.

Is it better to have loved nothing and lost everything? There is no way to stop this from happening and if there is, modern medical science owes it to women to tell us how. Women complain men are distant and men complain women are needy. This disastrous pheromone is making us all crazy. Forget drug dependency, it’s Oxytocin that’s ruining all our lives.
