ebay: Protesters Appear to Be Stepping Up Their Campaign

Bad Listings and Ebays Silence Are Focus for Criticism

Last weekend, a group known as CORE – The Campaign Of Rebuffed Ebayers – organised a four day protest. Today I received a Press Release from them. I will report it in its entirety for all to see and invite comments before following up with my own opinions in a later
 article.

The remainder of this article is the test received from CORE:

CORE, the now ‘international’ Campaign of Rebuffed Ebayers, have reported some alarming findings following their ‘Clean up Ebay’ campaign. The protest itself involved an international 4-day boycott of eBay from 14th September to 18th September. During this period, eBay experienced a significant drop in the amount of listings displayed on their site. In categories being monitored, falls of up to 50% in the amount of auction and Buy It Now listings was evident by the end of the protest period.

The allied Clean Up Ebay (CUE) campaign aimed to report as many ‘bad listings’ as possible. It is this aspect of the protest CORE can now report some alarming findings. A spokesperson for the group said: “We reported numerous ‘bad listings’ to Ebay during CUE. Apart from the usual fee avoidance and general scams, we also found evidence of hijacked accounts and listings of counterfeit goods. In most cases it took up to 24 hours to remove offending items, if this happened at all. This demonstrates what we see as the woeful inadequacy of eBay’s ability to police their site effectively. In too many instances reported bad listings were not removed at all, and quite often, the ones that were removed reappeared within an hour.”

If you are fed up with Ebay you should check out the "SS2BM" (Summer Solsice to Blue Moon) promotion on Pheebay.com.

This site looks interesting for those who wish to discuss alternative auction venues: http://pheebay.com/forums It seems to be new.

I myself have been a victim of account hyjacking. When answering a *ask seller a question* e.mail direct from my e.mail inbox , I was infected with a Keylogger. Not aware these things existed I just thought it was a system glitch. I checked my account 1 hour later to find goods added to my store inventory :( I was very shocked as you can imagine, especially as I never actually typed any info into the page I was directed to. It took e.bay 3 days to sort the problem and get my account active again. These scams have become very sophisticated and its about time that e.bay improved security and made a better effort to police the site.

Excellent article. I would also like to point out Amazon has announced stores for seller too. Which means even more stores winding down on ebay or leaving. When the listings that were renewed for 90 days on the old fee prices are due to end we could see alot more leave.

Ebay needs to get off it's backside and stop using we are just a venue rubbish, hijacked accounts are on the increase mainly on 1 day listings the chances of them getting pulled before some honest buyer has been ripped off is slim. Ebay do not care about their buyers or sellers and have proved this by their silence.

To Lynette Jester: "of course we all know that ebay is full of IT"..... That is sooo funny. We all need the laughs. Can I borrow IT? Or have do you have a patent on IT.....???

"Ebay is just a venue"... Definition of "VENUE"... A PLACE WHERE A CRIME IS COMMITTED.

Many of us are finding that we are directed to sign into eBay multiple times. We're not sure if they are tracking who is on the boards, or if they just want to inflate their numbers for "visitors to their site." This has been happening on eBay North America and eBay Canada. Is this happening to anyone else? This started around the second day of the "boycott."

Time for Meg and Bill to go. They are out of touch with the business.

I reported many scams over the Clean up Weekend and very few were removed. Those that were, were back within hours. I reported thirteen Scammers by Ebay ID and was sent an email by email telling me I had to report individual auctions! As the total came to over 3000 auctions can you imagine how long it would have taken? Ebay could easily remove these scammers. The problem is they dont really want to.
