In the year 2004, 16% of all hate crime was motivated by a sexual-orientation bias. This statistics was done four years ago and now we are faced with people who are representatives of our states making anti-gay comments.

Sally Kern's anti-gay comments are being heard around the country for exactly what it is. Kern had made statements saying that homosexuals were worse than terrorists and compared being a homosexual to cancer, as reported by JMB Zine.

Sally Kern's comments were not only rude but also made it seem that her priorities are not set into the right direction as what they should be. As a citizen of Oklahoma, I am ashamed to say that one of our representatives of Oklahoma had even felt the need to compare or criticize homosexuals and that this should not be taken lightly.

Sally Kern wasn't the only one who had made anti-gay comments over the years. On February 13, Cleveland.com came out with a news report on Brady Quinn, quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Quinn had apparently made anti-gay comments at gay passers-by outside of a Columbus bar on New Year's Day. Being high-profile like Quinn or Kern, does not give them the right to make anti-gay comments like these.

On July 9, 2004, Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz had made anti-gay comments, comparing gay marriage to bestiality, as reported by the Southern Voice. Comparing humans to such things like this is one way to create an outrage amongst homosexuals and homosexual supporters. So, why do high-profile people like Smoltz and Sally Kern feel the need to compare? Your guess is as good as mine.

A couple of high-profile cases at the moment are from two college students, Eve Carson and Lauren Burk, who were both college students that died within the last few weeks. These two were both shot down and killed near a college. Fred Phelps' anti-gay hate group is planning to picket both of these funerals, as reported by the Alter Net. These groups are known for picketing at funerals of fallen soldiers as a way to say that this is our punishment from God for allowing gay rights.

To Chris, it is ok to have different opinions, and to voice them. As you say, freedom of speech. However an opinion remains an opinion and should not turn into an offense. People view sexual orientation differently. Fine. But if a human being feels superior to another person solely on the basis of sexual orientation, then that's very sad. Especially to the extent of being called a beast!!! I don't get many people's choices but that does not give me the right of calling them beast, compare them to cancer or stigmatize them as being worse than terrorism. I hope that Mrs Kern doesn't prefer being on the Twin Towers during the September 11 attack rather than spending the afternoon with a gay. If yes, her loss!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how these religious WHACKJOBS think they have some god given right to enforce the pet religious fantasies on the rest of the population. People like the lunatic Sally Kern would gladly replace the Bill of Rights with the ten commandments, given the opportunity. Had she lived 600 years ago no doubt she herself would willingly have lit the 'faggots' to burn people such as me as the stake. Too bad for her and those of her ilk that we are a nation of laws, based on the Constitution. We are not a nation based on the fables of the bible and none in our society are obligated in any manner whatsoever to acknowledge her invisible daddy in the sky in any manner. Just because Sally can't see the similarity between the talking lion in the Wizard of Oz and the talking serpent in Genesis, does not mean her psychopathic viewpoints have any place in our government at all.

Good job on this. I don't believe in homosexuality, but I don't judge someone who is gay. People are what they are.

Bridget Delaney - If people who disagree with Homosexuality shouldn't say anything at all, then those who support it should be quiet as well? Are you advocating robbing one side of the debate its free speech rights, but not the other?

The Bible has caused many arguments throughout time. I am not gay myself but I do believe that people are entitled to what they believe in. Just because I am for or against something does not make it right. I guess that you could say that I am a person of my own beliefs but also believe that you are entitled your own. -Rosa Hayes- Author of Article

part 3 of 3 I could give many more examples, but is it really necessary? The same religious people who use the bible to condemn gays and other sinners can somehow read the above laws, shrug their shoulders, and act as though they don't even exist. They only point to the versus that appear to condemn homosexuality because those are the ones that support their own, personal prejudice. If anyone really cares to know what the bible does and doesn't say about homosexuality, you can find it here: http://www.soulforce.org/article/homosexuality-bible-gay-christian

If a married person has sex with someone else's husband or wife, the Bible commands that both adulterers be stoned to death. (DEUTERONOMY 22:22) Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced. (MARK 10:1-12) The Bible forbids a married couple from having sexual intercourse during a woman's period. If they disobey, both shall be executed. (LEVITICUS 18:19) If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir. (MARK 12:18-27) If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife seeks to rescue her husband by grabbing the enemy's genitals, her hand shall be cut off and no pity shall be shown her. (DEUTERONOMY 25:11-12) I could give many more examples, but is it really necessary? The same religious people who use the bible to condemn gays and other sinners can somehow read the above laws, shrug their shoulders

One cannot use the bible to logically justify anything, period, and when it is used to justify hatred or misunderstanding it is at its worst. Unfortunately, it is used for that, a lot. The poster above obviously feels they are being generous, by saying "I can't see as they are any worse than the one who willingly commits adultery or any other kind of sexual sins, or any other type of sin". This is the problem I have with religious people. They're very selective in their reading and application of the laws that are spelled out in the bible. This country once had laws supporting slavery, and there are versus in the bible that would support those laws and in fact were used to support those laws. Yet, today, we're more enlightened than the bible and we choose to ignore those versus, or explain them away, as though they didn't exist. If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately. (DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21) If a married per

I don't view homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle, but as AnnaB points out, it's not the only sin and we all fall short of the glory of God.
