3 Ideas for DIY Retro Platform Beds

Retro platform beds are a fun DIY project that can really create a custom and expensive looking platform bed in your home. You can use your love of vintage finds, industrial décor, and shabby chic homes to create your own one of a kind DIY retro platform beds in no time.Retro Platform Beds Idea #1: Chrome
Chrome is an awesome vintage touch perfect for a retro bedroom. You will need an existing bed for this idea, as you will with all of the retro inspired platform beds.
Take the visible sides of the platform bed outside. You want to lightly sand them, make sure they are clean, and then prime them with a gray colored spray paint primer.
Once the primer dries you can spray on the Chrome paint.
For metal platform beds you can paint them yourself or even take them to a local car and auto body shop. They can paint the metal so it will be professional retro chrome for years to come.
Retro Platform Beds Idea #2: Retro Board Games
Another fun idea that allows you to display your love of retro board games is to use the old boxes to decorate the platform bed. You can measure how tall thes dies of you platform bed are. Now, trim the boxes down to this height. You will need a few of these to create abed skirt around themed.
You will also need to measure the length of each side as well as the height of the sides of the retro platform bed. Have a sheet of Plexiglas cut to this size, one for each side of the bed. Pre drill holes in the four corners.
Now, use glue to adhere the trimmed side of the retro game boxes to the sides to the platform bed. Once that is dried you can place the Plexiglas over the sides to protect the retro skirt of the platform bed. Use washers over the hole and then screws to firmly attach the Plexiglas in place!
Retro Platform Beds Idea #3: Retro Ties
Finally, for a fun and whack retro platform bed us old vintage ties to create a cool bed skirt on the sides of the bed. You can cut the ties to length if you do not mind cutting them. If you don't want to cut them, then fold the ties so the excess rests up inside the mattress. Create rows of ties draped over the side.
