Governor Eliot Spitzer Involved in Prostitution Ring?

Eliot Spitzer involved in a prostitution ring? The New York Times is reporting that they were told by an anonymous official in Spitzer's administration that he told his top administration officials that, indeed, he was involved in a prostitution ring. This, seemingly, developed

after very recent numerous inquiries of him by the Times about the matter. The New York Times is the first to break the story.

The New York Post also added the oft-heard description of Governor Spitzer's administration that his was an administration of ethics reform. Many in New York , whether, or not, they voted for him heard the same recurring theme; his administration would be a legacy of cleaning up the ethics of state government, and ethical reform as a whole, just as he'd come to have a reputation as when serving as NY State Attorney General.

Too, Time magazine touted Spitzer "Crusader of the Year."

This coming after he and his administration waged several headlining battles with Wall Street to "root out corruption."

Update: In a hastily called news conference, which turned out to be extremely brief, and televised on ABC7 New York, Governor Spitzer only offered his apology to his family, and to everyone for violating the public's trust.

That's nuts. Not surprising, but nuts.

I heard someone say that what he did was bad enough, but having his poor wife at the podium with him is a "hangable offense." I couldn't agree more. That's not to say she didn't want to be there, but...Geez!

Great article! Thanks Troy for reading and commenting on my Spitzer article. I'm heading over to read the complaint filed with the justice dept (the pdf file you gave the link for.) I feel really sorry for his wife, she just looked awful. Imagine how hard it must be to stand up here beside him, during the news conference, etc. He hasn't resigned yet, but the news reports today say it's coming.

Thanks Pam, Rodney, Donna, and Irene. If anyone wants to see the actual complaint filed with the justice dept., copy and paste this pdf file. http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/nyregion/20080310spitzer-complaint.pdf Page 34 is where "Client 9" starts.

Yeah it's old news, now, Jeanne. I was alerted very early to this breaking news. Had AC published this pv-only news article when I first submitted it, I, and they, would have been the eighth article on Google's news page. Now it's behind 1479 other articles about this very subject. Hmm...I wonder what the difference in page views is now-thousands!-compared to maybe a few hundred, now.
