I regularly use vanilla as it is one of the ingredients that I use to sweeten the Honey Walnut Granola that I make. I use pure vanilla extract, as oppose to imitation vanilla and sometimes that can get really expensive. The last time that I needed vanilla I asked someone to pick it up for me. I wasn't specific about brands or price ranges and I guess that is why the vanilla that was chosen was the Island Spice Pure Vanilla Extract.

I really don't have a lot of bad things to say about this vanilla. I had never gotten it myself before, probably because of the price. I am on a tight budget when it comes to my groceries and seven dollar vanilla does not normally fit into that. Although I have to admit that it looked very nice and I was eager to try it out. I thought that it was very tasty one of the best vanillas that I have ever had actually. I find that I don't have to put as much into something because the vanilla taste is quite strong, so it last longer. However it does have the tendency to spill more than I would like, something to watch out for.

Spice Islands Pure Vanilla Extract comes in a 2 oz bottle, this being said there is roughly a one eighth of a cup of vanilla per bottle. I use a teaspoon per batch of granola so I should be able to get 12 teaspoons out of the bottle, thus I should be able to make a dozen batches before I use up the bottle. This means that this little bottle will last me about 6 weeks, as long as I don't use it for anything other than granola. Although tempting I know I can find pure vanilla extract for less than 5 dollars for the same amount, and in the long run that will save me money.

I would recommend this vanilla to anyone who had it in their grocery budget to afford this vanilla. I know that if my grocery budget is able to expand a bit more that I definitely will lean towards getting the Spice Islands Pure Vanilla Extract again. I have really enjoyed it and am glad that I got a chance to try it out. I still have about a third of my bottle left and so I am hoping to get another 4 batches of granola out of it and I will be sure to enjoy them.

Good job on this. I have never tried using real vanilla - I've always used the imitation. I'll have to give it a try.
