Lodge Logic Iron Cover is a multifunctional lid that can be used on different pan and pots. This comes in different sizes and be careful while selecting the size as they are really confusing. I got the 12 inch lid and this is now one of the most popular accessories in my kitchen. I was initially skeptical about its quality and was wondering whether the Lodge Cover can be used with other skillets apart from Lodge. Pleasantly this is compatible with T-Fal skillet and even my older Emirilware that was lying unused in the kitchen as their lid was not functional. Strangely, this goes along with 5 quart chicken fryer and 7 quart Dutch oven. So at $24 this is quite useful. Needless to say this also fits into the 12 inch regular Lodge Logic Iron Skillet. Just like any other appliance from the Lodge, this lid also comes with pre seasoned coating. So there is no need to waste time and energy on laborious seasoning at home. They are ready to use and can be used straight out of the pack. Quality of the seasoning is indisputable and no amount of personalized seasoning can be this professional. Vegetable oil is sprayed minutely and is baked in oven for durability. This avoids the headache of seasoning every time you use and it does not peel away also. Jet black seasoning gives it an oily look. Recently after using it for more than a year, I applied some oil for my satisfaction.
The Cast Iron lid is made heavy so that it sits tightly on the skillet without allowing the steam to escape. Even as the broth or soup boils in the pot, the steam build inside cannot push open the lid. Handle it carefully and do not lift it casually like any other lid. These facilitate basting and do a great job without scorching the pan. Spikes shaped peculiar designs below the lid is designed for allowing the steam to slide into the dish itself. The steam does not cloud on the top and the spikes drip the water down and it allows the veggies and stir fry to retain its natural moistness. Though I was told about this feature before, I did not have much faith in its application. The basting and spikes really work and it does not go wasted.
