The popular gothic style is all about darkness, opulence and things associated with death and elegance. Rich fabrics, elaborate accessories and certain iconic figures are often seen in gothic style fashion. They often enjoy vampiresque vials of blood, fangs, bats, spiders, celtic crosses, roses, and pagan symbolism in their jewelry. If goths make their own jewelry, the following beads and jewelry findings should be in their craft cabinet.

Gothic Style Jewelry - Stone Beads

Some semi-precious stone beads lend themselves to the dark elegance of gothic style beaded jewelry. Onyx, the pure black, shiny stone is perfect for necklaces and earrings. Garnet is a deep red stone that can mimic such things as drops of blood or the petals on a dying rose. Other stone beads that would be useful in gothic style jewelry include dark amethyst, obsidian, and hematite which shines with a deep grey color.

Gothic Style Jewelry - Metals

Silver is the most popular metal used in gothic style jewelry. And silver beads can be used. Silver charms in the shapes of crosses, fangs, dragons, or celtic knots are also popular. Silver toned metals that are less expensive can be used extensively. Much gothic style jewelry is costume jewelry and made for teenagers. Antiqued or tarnished silver can be used for gothic style jewelry.

Besides sterling silver, pewter is another metal that can be used in handmade gothic jewelry styles. Pewter is a darker grey metal that is often used for charms and pendants.

Gothic Style Jewelry - Other Beads

Any beads in gothic style colors of black, deep red, and deep purple are popular for jewelry. Seed beads can be used to make ropey necklaces, bracelets, and complex net chokers. Crystal beads are popular as well, especially those in the classic dark gothic colors. Long tear-drop shapes are ideal for pendants and earrings.

Other popular materials in gothic style costume jewelry include rubber, vinyl, and leather. Rubber and thick vinyl are popular for band style bracelets. Leather is also a bracelet or cuff material, but is also used in cords for hanging pendants or larger beads from.
