Trichomoniasis and Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Teen Girls

As an older man, I had to think a long time before I decided to go ahead and write about this situation. My children are all boys and all are mostly grown, but, I have one son who is a junior in high school and as a result of that, I know all I want to

know about the heart break of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in teenage girls.

Trichomoniasis is one of these sexually transmitted diseases. It is caused by a parasite and millions of girls have it. It leads the way to possible HIV involvement and complications and can complicate pregnancies. The saddest thing, I feel, is that young girls pay the largest price in the area of sexually transmitted diseases.

For example, I know that Trichomonaisis shows symptoms more readily in girls than boys so a girl has little idea who or what she is getting into bed with while a boy at least has a potential choice.

Today, 20 to 25 percent of young girls, depending who you talk to, battle at least one sexually transmitted disease, and, as is well known, some are fatal. Further, when there is a problem with a birth or a complication at birth, it is usually the girl and/or the girl's family who pay the price.

The reason that I decided to write this article is that I have seen two of my son's friends that happen to be girls pay dearly for their sexual activity while most kids that become sexually active often get by with it.

In both of these cases pregnancy was involved and, in both cases a sexually transmitted disease was involved and I know that one was Trichomoniasis. In both cases a miscarriage occurred. Was there relief on the part of the girls? No, there was not. With all of the emotional baggage and problems, they both felt they had an obligation to deliver their children; the boys, on he other hand, being underage, had no responsibility and, further, volunteered no assistance.

Anyone who knows anything about the sexes at high school age knows that girls most often have sex to please boys.

The problems are not totally with the young people. Early morning curfews are way too common and set the stage for problems. Parents who live vicariously through their children are dangerous.

Great job on this! We parents do really need to set boundaries for our kids. There are way too many teen pregnancies, diseases, and apathy is on the rise. I keep tabs on my teen and she knows it. I have the boyfriend's parents on my side when it comes to this too. I know I cannot be there every second of every minute, but I try.
