"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept." ...Geraldine Ferraro's comment to the Daily Breeze of Torrance, California.

I listened to Geraldine Ferraro's comment about Barrack Obama on television on Monday morning. I was, to say the least, very surprised. As far as I know, no public figure or the media has spoken out so boldly about Obama's race. Ferraro has been criticized for her remark. Clinton quickly announced that she did not agree with Ferraro's comments and the Obama campaign has called on Clinton to denounce Ferraro's remark. However, the words were there for the entire world to hear; much like when a judge tells a jury to ignore the last testimony and strike it from the record. The words have been said and they cannot be taken back.

A voter should look through the outer layer to the inside of a candidate rather than looking on the outside. Their gender or their race should not enter into any decision. A candidate should be chosen for what they stand for, the issues and their agenda. The old saying "beauty is only skin deep" is true; this should apply to our politician's actions as well.

When looking at Hillary do you see a power hungry woman who was humiliated by her husband, Whitewater, "travel gate," the FBI files found in her office that were never explained, the numerous things so many dislike about her or do you see her liberal points of view on practically the same positions that she shares with Obama? Do you see what she can do for this country or do you see the damage she may cause with some of her socialist and liberal stands?

Wonderful article, Jane. I'm like Aly in that it makes me sick to think of having any of the three as president and having to listen to them for four years. I preferred Edwards for Democratic candidate and Huckabee for Republican, but I don't see how anyone who cares about the welfare of our country could even consider voting for either Clinton or Obama. I have not one whit of a problem voting for a black man for president if he were an American patriot, and the same goes for a woman of any color. But I think our country is in for a world of hurt if we elect either Clinton or Obama. McCain might be okay, but there's just something about him that doesn't ring my bell. Again, I guess we're faced with choosing the lesser of evils, and I see McCain as that.

Very good article, Jane. I am still undecided at this point. I don't like any of them Democrat or Republican.
