American Idol Season 7 - Top 12: David Cook and Brook White Shine on Lennon/McCartney Night.

Living up to its hype as the best American Idol season once more, the Top 12 - Lennon/McCartney night provided some top notch performances, with my favorites for the night being David Cook's "Eleanor Rigby , and Brooke White's "Let It Be."

Cook, the rocker from Oklahoma kept building upon the momentum he gained last week and got high praised from the judges, among them Simon Cowell who said if American Idol was a talent show not a popularity contest, he would have a good chance of winning this season. In short, Simon called the rocker's rendition "Brilliant."

Brooke White, the girl with the sunshine and flowers personality, was also up to task, and for the third straight week in a row, the former Nanny gave a good show, singing a very emotion-filled version of "Let it Be" while playing the piano. While part of Brooke's appeal to me is that she does a wonderful job representing her Latter Day Saint religion with her squeaky clean lifestyle, the girl also seems to make wonderful song choices each week.

Unlike Brooke, the more vocally talented Syesha Mercado, also one of my favorites, never really seems to make the right song choice. Syesha's version of "Got To Get You Into My Life," wasn't bad, but once again she failed to make the song her own.

Not living up to his recent hype was David Archuleta who was, in Simon's words, "a mess" with his rendition of "We can Work it Out." The heralded teen went as far as forgetting parts of the lyrics to the song.

As for the others, Ramiele Malubay's "In My Life," was as forgettable as it was boring. Kristy Lee Cook tried to listen to the judges and go country with a version of "Eight Days a Week." It was a gambled that did not pay off and Simon Cowell was brutal on the blonde from Oregon, calling it "Horrendous."
