I was really excited when I heard the news - Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated actor, Michael C. Hall, would be starring in a twisted new crime drama this fall. Showtime has always been good for bringing us new and innovative shows, and I was sure that this one would be no exception. Of course, I didn't know then, what I know now and, truth be told, I'm more than a little outraged.

Don't get me wrong. I love shows that break out of the box and step beyond the barriers. I was a huge fan of Queer as Folk and, honestly, I didn't think you could get much more controversial than that. I love it when you guys get risque` but come on!

Since when do we show serial killers in a heroic light?

I don't care how good looking Michael C. Hall is. I don't care how many Golden Globe or Emmy nominations he has, it still isn't good enough for me to agree to watch him playing a sick and twisted killer, who fixes his victims to a table with cellophane and proceeds to dissect them while they are still alive. I don't care that this serial killer only kills the "bad elements" out there in the world. Murder is murder, regardless of whether the victim is good or bad. Serial killers are psychologically disturbed individuals - they are NOT the new breed of Superman.

After watching the sneak peek of this show, I have to say that I am sadly disappointed. I loved the acting and I must agree thta the show is well thought out and put together, but the topic is tasteless and below the belt. As much as I love Showtime, I cannot praise a network or a program that takes a monster such as a serial killer, tosses him on the police force, and has him solve crimes like a modern vigilante. This is wrong.

Try and imagine Dahmer or Bundy as a member of your local police force and maybe you'll catch my drift.

Dexter premieres October 1st, on Showtime, 10 pm EST.

Takeaways
  • Stars Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor, Michael C. Hall.
  • Premieres on Showtime, this October 1st, at 10 pm EST.
  • Showtime attempts to take a monster and make him a hero.
Did You Know?
The FBI describes serial killers as being the most cunning and sinister of all violent people. They are addicted to the act of murdering others, as if it were a drug, and they are always on the hunt.

Comparing Dexter to Dalmer and Bundy is ridiculous......Dexter would definitely take THEM out for being what they were, as he did his own brother for being what he was, the sicko who tortured and tried to kill his sister. As many have said, this is a fictional character, enjoyable to the max. No other show compares at this time. Kudos to the whole Dexter crew.

I absolutely love Dexter..................it's twisted yes, you feel somewhat disturbed that you can fancy a serial killer and actually like the guy..........but you do and it makes you do that, so incredibly well written. Of course the fact Michael C Hall is the sexiest man alive doesnt hurt either. I just love the sweet and sour of the whole thing..........how sweet he is with his girlfriend and her kids, then how messed up he is killing people and what makes him tick. I personally love it.

Just finished the entire 2006 season. I absolutely love this show! Very odd and compelling, intrigueing. Well directed and acted. The only "out-of-context" was the Ton-Ton_Mercuite killing by the seargeant. For now, seems to go nowhere. Please, please bring it back for 2007.

You must not take it seriously. I agree with "Bexter" - the fact that Michael C. Hall plays a serial killer is beyond the point. It is a fantastic show. The acting is superb.

Honestly, its a fantastic show. Just watched the whole season. May not be your cup of tea, but it's the best new show I've seen in a while.

Wow, and you got a job reviewing television shows how? That was such a biased write up; yes, I know you have your opinion, but could you be any more preachy? Do your job and review the quality and content of the show, not refuse because the lead character happens to be a serial killer. Does this mean you don't watch CSI, Law & Order, or any of the other 10,000 crime dramas out there? Cause you know there's killers in those shows too... I suppose your entitled to your opinion, even if it is wrong.

DEXTER is an amazing show. Not only the plot but every damn aspect of it. Visuals are stunning, actors perfomance is top (much better then many crap Oscar winners in the past). You don't have to like the series but comparing Dexter to Ted Bundy or even Charlie Manson is far below the belt. First, don't mess facts with fictions. Second, Dexter is brilliant, intelligent 'monster' following the code. He would never hurt innocents. You failed Anarch. Failed big time.

It definitly seems like you're not giving the show a chance. Just because someone is a fan doesn't mean they have to agree with what Dexter is doing.

I think you're missing the point. Dahmer and Bundy killed to KILL - not to serve the specific purpose of killing the guilty who slipped through the justice system cracks. The big point of "The Code of Harry", which is brought up in the Jeff Lindsay books AND in the show, is that Dexter is NOT killing indiscriminately. It's only fiction. But I'd still not have too much of a problem knowing that Dexter rid society of a PROVEN serial child killer, a rapist/murderer, a serial killing nurse, or a drunk driver who gets off on beating the rap for his crimes.

yeah, it's a show. it's tongue and cheek. don't take it so seriously.
