Soul Mates - Do They Exist?

Are We Really Destined for Only One Person to Match Our Soul?

Recently, I was contracted to write an article about soul mates for a new age dating site. Being a writer, I was able to write the article per their specifications, but not without putting a lot of thought into the concept of a soul mate and what that means to me personally. I did a bit of research into what exactly people believed a soul mate to be, and I found that there is a wide divide in beliefs where soul mates are concerned.

Some people believe there is only one person made specifically to connect with another person. Some people believe there are people whose souls are bound together by past lives, and that these souls are meant to be together in future incarnations throughout time. Some people believe that a soul mate is nothing more than a person who matches our inner core so perfectly that they seem to be a reflection of our soul. Some say there is only one soul mate for us all, and still others believe that there can be multiple soul mates.

So, quantum physics says you are made up of the same stuff that I am - energy. So is all of nature and everything that exists - energy, pure energy (this is a scientific principle, not a theory or faith - we are all made of energy-everything can be broken down into energy at the base level.) Like energy attracts like energy, thus it is in science, and so I believe it to be true in people too. While opposites might be appealing or enticing, it is truly the things about us that are the same that bound and bind us to another. Our differences make us unique and we can compliment each other’s weaknesses, but is our sameness that will keep us connected on that purely energetic, spiritual level.

Because of that, by definition of what I believe a soul mate to be, any person out there could potentially fulfill that role, provided that their energy and mine, or our personalities and core if you will, are similar. Yet, not everyone will. By the definition of what most believe a soul mate to be - why is that?

Takeaways
  • There are people who enter our lives who just feel like they are meant to be.
  • There are almost as many definitions of what a soul mate is as there are people who believe.
  • Love is a choice.

Ah, but I don't consider myself new age, really - at all! More that I believe in the scientific and immutable laws of attraction - quantum phsyics at it's best - love the stuff. Either that, or it could be the fact that I'm a Taoist... and while many consider that new age, I find that fascinating, since Taoism is ancient philosophy... (yes, I am a Taoist Christian - now just try to figure that one out!)

Maybe our soul mate is simply someone whose energy vibrates at the same frequency. You can't get more New Age than that. :)
