In 1928 Drew received a donation that was large enough to prompt the idea of expanding the university via the formation of an undergraduate liberal arts school. In 1955 a graduate school was also added forming Drew University as it is known today.
Because of its relatively small number of undergraduates, less than 2,000, Drew has been able to offer wonderfully small classes taught by professors most of whom have terminal degrees in their area of expertise. The small size has also permitted Drew University to work on creative, experience centered forms of study for undergraduates. Drew has often been on the cusp or ahead of what will become new educational trends. Drew admitted women students in the 1940's , has been a leader in integrating field work and internship programs with in class studies and in 1984 was the first university in the U. S. to provide all students with laptops as part of their tuition and board and room package.
