When planning your vacation this year, consider traveling to South Africa with Earthwatch to study these amazing animals.
When Is the South Africa's Brown Hyena Expedition Scheduled?
Earthwatch offers three different expeditions a year into brown hyena territory. Expeditions are scheduled in January, August and November, and a special teen expedition is scheduled in August. Each expedition lasts 12 days. The maximum team size for these expeditions is 12 people, so you will want to book your spot early.
Where the Expedition Is Located
Your expedition will begin in Jahannesburg, South Africa. From here you will be taken to a field camp in the Mankwe Wildlife Reserve. This reserve is the home of many uniquely African species like the white rhinoceros, so you need to be prepared to be up close and personal with the local wildlife.
Your accommodations are going to be rustic but comfortable. You will either be staying in a safari tent or in a field station. Water basins and flush toilets will be available. The price of your expedition will not only cover your lodging costs, but it will also cover your food and beverages. Each day you will be served meals featuring local cuisine like braai and poitjekos.
