In the wake of New York disgraced Governor(now former) Elliot Spitzer's allegations that he was involved in a prostitution ring, it got me thinking. What is it with these men who are in powerful positions and how come they feel the need to cheat on their wives or girlfriends? Now, I know it's not just those who are in high profile positions or of a certain celebrity. A lot of men cheat on their significant others for one reason or the other. Why? Who knows. It's probably the lowest thing you can do in a relationship aside from physical abuse. But it seems that we hear more and more of these people who find themselves in delicate situations.

What always boggles my mind is how the wives or girlfriends who are accused of wrongdoing can stand behind their man like that and appear to be supportive. Watching Spitzer's wife stand behind him as he gave his news conference the other day, it made me scratch my head. If I was involved in any type of prostitution ring, I know my girlfriend wouldn't be standing behind me in support. Well, she'd be behind me, but it'd only be to kick my butt. And I'd deserve it. And so does Spitzer. Married man, 3 daughters, the most powerful position in the state of New York and you go out and get involved in an illegal activity that when you were Attorney General, made it a point to try and stop. How hypocritical. Maybe you could try and pose the argument that if it happened once, you made a mistake. And as much as that one mistake could cost you, to have allegations that it happened 7 times..you should be ashamed of yourself. And if Mrs. Spitzer is not "Mrs." any longer, who could blame her?

This isn't the first sex scandal for these politicians. Just this past September, Idaho Senator Larry Craig stepped down following an arrest at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. He was arrested on suspicion of a lewd act inside the bathroom. Senator Craig eventually plead guilty to the charge in hopes that the story would just go away. Despite denying that he is gay, he subsequently stepped down from his post.

Great analysis. Wonder if the wife will leave him?
