Hockey Season is just around the corner and the Carolina Hurricanes will soon start defending their Stanley Cup Championship. Whoever thought you would ever hear those words in the same sentence. It’s kind of like “And the Award for Best Actor goes to Steve Seagal.” But I digress. Well, anyway with Hockey season just around the corner here is a list of the top five hockey movies of all time. I wanted to do a top ten list, but couldn’t find ten hockey movies. That being said some of these movies are not that great but they are about hockey so they made the list. So here goes the top five hockey movies of all time.

Slap Shot (1977) This is by far the greatest hockey movie ever made. Paul Newman plays Reggie Dunlap the aging player-coach of a third rate minor league hockey team, the Charlestown Chiefs. Dunlap is the type of player that is not above using a dirty trick or two to motivate his players or psych out the opposition. When word spreads that the local steel mill will be closing down, Chiefs ownership decides to sell the team after the season. In the meantime ownership brings in the Hanson Brothers, three brothers known more for fighting then playing hockey. When Dunlap sees the crowd embrace the Hansons, he decides to turn it up a notch in hopes of filling the arena and getting his team to start winning. The scenes with the Hanson Brothers are some of the funniest you will ever see. Plus it is worth looking at just to see the 70’s fashions being worn. Paul Newman in a brown leather suit is classic.

In 2002 a sequel was made starring Stephen Baldwin, I haven’t scene it and from what I hear it is not worth the effort.

You could probably throw in Happy Gilmore, if you want to count it. It does revolve around golf a lot, but a lot of it has to do with Happy's love for hockey. I think it should count and be on that list over Youngblood.
