I get about a million calls every day from people asking, "Jetlag Democracy, now that autumn is here, I really want to take my family on a fun day trip, but I can't figure out where to go? You know New Jersey like the back of your hand, where can I take my family on the weekends?"It's amazing how many folks in New Jersey feel this way. Sometimes I wonder what everyone in this state would do if I wasn't around. Anyway, like always, I won't fail you. After hours and hours of research I have come up with this, my list of five family trips for the people of New Jersey to enjoy this fall:
-The Morris Museum - morrismuseum.org - 973-971-3700
"The mission of the Morris Museum is to elevate the cultural consciousness, excite the mind and enhance the quality of life by advancing the understanding and enjoyment of the visual and performing arts, natural and physical sciences, and humanities through exhibitions, performances and educational programs in a welcoming, inclusive and creative environment that responsibly uses all museum resources, including stewardship of a permanent collection." -from morrismuseum.org
I can support everything that quote says. As a kid I took trips to this museum and can vouch for it. They've got lots of exhibits dedicated to animals, so if you have kids into that, then definitely check it out.
-The Turtle Back Zoo - turtlebackzoo.com - 973-731-5800
Every year the grammar school I went to makes a field trip to this great children's zoo. It isn't huge but it's also not that expensive. It has a train and is a great way to spend an afternoon with children who love nature.
-Waterloo Village - waterloovillage.org - 973-347-0900
"Waterloo was opened to the public in 1964 through the efforts of Percival H.E. Leach and the late Louis D. Gualandi. Recognizing the historical importance (dating back to the Lenape Native Americans at the turn of the 17th century), Leach and his partner completely restored the Village. The result is a place authenticating an Early American village. Today, the Village consists of three educational sites." -from waterloovillage.org
