What Happened Over the Offseason and What Southwest Division Teams Made the Best Improvements for the 2006-2007 Season?

2. Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks continue to become an even deeper team as this season they traded Marquis Daniels to get four very solid players in Austin Croshere, Anthony Johnson, Devean George and Greg Buckner. Jason Terry was one of the bigger free agents this summer but the Mavericks were able to re-sign him as well. With a very deep team and a strong desire to win after losing to the Heat in last season's Finals, it's quite possible that the Mavericks are going to take advantage next time they go that far into the playoffs.

1. New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets
The Hornets got one of the best free agents this summer in Peja Stojakovic. The Serbian sharpshooter will be a great asset to the team, who paid over $60 to get him for five years. They also traded to get defensive specialist Tyson Chandler from the Bulls, which was a great acquirement. With a very good offseason this summer, it's quite surprising to see that the Hornets still have some room for more acquirements next summer as well.

The offseason for the NBA's Southwest Division teams was pretty strong overall, as some very key free agents and top rookies were signed. The Hornets, Rockets, and Mavericks have only gotten better, while the Spurs and Grizzlies got some promising acquirements that can potentially make a positive impact in the upcoming years.
