Summer Basketball Camps

Last summer I was fortunate enough to be on a basketball team coached by a former starter for the University of Santa Clara and a former NBA player for the Los Angeles Clippers. While I was on the team he

invited us to his basketball camp at the nearby community center for no cost at all. The camp was called Advanced Basketball and was only for boys. The camp was located in California. This camp was very grueling (it was an advanced camp) as we did tons of conditioning by running suicides, a basketball drill where you run to every line on the court and back and 20-20's where you run back and forth from the left sideline to the right sideline as fast as you can and a many times as you can in under one minute. We also had to do lunges across the court to build up leg muscle and to build up balance. For example like from the baseline to the free throw line back to the baseline then to the half court line and so on.

This camp not only elevated my physical skills and strength but more importantly my basketball skills and my knowledge of the game of basketball. My ball handling skills improved miraculously at this camp because I had the coaches working side by side with me analyzing my moves and giving me constructive criticism to help with my game. My jumper also improved because they taught us proper techniques and spin to maximize the chances of the ball going in the hoop. My knowledge of the game increased because they broke down the specific duties of each position and gave us some plays to run so we could have an idea on how to work together to score a basket. To enroll in camps like these you might have to go to your local town center or go online to see if any local camps are near you. The length of my camp session was one week but some camps can be up top two weeks long. And the cost can be up to $100(it seems like that the more competitive they are they more expensive they are).Summer basketball camps are a great way to improve your basketball skills no matter if you are an all-star or if you just like to play the game for fun. I recommend to anyone who enjoys the game of basketball and who has the drive to get better to go to a summer basketball camp near you.
