The perfect Halloween costume requires the perfect scary accessories. Makeup, fake blood and other commercial products help to get you ready, but there are lots of spooky accessories you can make that are inexpensive yet look authentic.

Make a veil quickly by using a piece of black netting and a headband. The headband should be either the plastic type or the fabric-covered type. You’ll find the netting at most any fabric store. The veil can be as long or short as you wish. Decide on the size of fabric you’ll need and purchase a tube of fabric glue.

Fabric glue works on many surfaces and will easily accommodate your veil project. Find the center of the fabric and begin gluing it onto the headband. If you have to make gathers to fit the fabric onto the headband you can use clothes pins to hold the gathers in place until dry. Stitch the sides together on the veil or leave them opened and flowing. Now you can attach fake cobwebs or spiders onto the veil with fabric glue.

The headband and fabric glue work well for fake hair, too. Purchase the hair sections, usually meant for braiding in with real hair, and glue the sections onto the headband. Attach small bats, spiders, cobwebs or other spooky trims. Or, just glue a rubber bat, or spiders, onto the headband with contact cement and wear it with your real hair.

Make matching spider earrings by purchasing the inexpensive earring hardware at a department or craft store. Use fishing twine to string through the small loop in the hardware, then glue the twine onto the backsides of plastic spiders. You can make the earrings out of plastic skeletons, rubber eyeballs or other Halloween items.

Use fishnet stockings to make arm-length gloves. The stockings should not be the pantyhose type and should be the kind that is designed to stay up without a garter belt. Slide the stockings onto the arms and cut out holes for fingers.
