My advice is do not change the oil yourself, unless you have to. For the 1995 Ford F150 it is obvious that this truck is out of manufacturer warranty. Don't void a warranty by "Doing it Yourself." Should that apply.Use the manual for direction. It will tell you what type of oil to use, how much oil etc. The things you will need prior to my change of oil are:
1. An oil pan to collect the drained oil.
2.An oil filter wrench to assist you with removing the oil.
3. A few disposable rags.
4. Some work gloves
5.A loud audible voice so your neighbors can hear you cussing if old motor oil spills on your face.(just kidding, maybe)
6.Safety goggles, incase of the above mentioned.
7.A small set of sockets to fit the lug(it should be only one bolt) but a small assortment of sockets will keep you from getting up from underneath your truck.
8. A small tarp or blanket you can lay on while underneath the truck.
You should be able to go to your local auto store for oil and a filter. save the receipt. Try to purchase in my case for this truck motor craft parts. In this case the filter for this F150 was a Fl1A Oil Filter. I try to use factory based replacements only.
Now like a hunted animal, I lay on the tarp under the truck. The truck has sat for a while, because I don't want a hot oil bath in case the oil splatters. There is enough clearance for me to get under this truck, which is parked on level ground. I place the oil pan underneath the lug for the oil to drain out of the plug.. I do a quick visual while under the truck to look for anything wrong, like prior oil leaks, wear of belts as applicable etc. I fit the lug with appropriate socket to the oil pan(crankcase)
