"President Bush, may I ask a question?"

"Of course, I'm always happy to talk to the press."

"The economy is in the toilet. We're in a recession. Retail spending is down. Unemployment is up. Gas prices are reaching to the moon. The housing crisis is not showing any signs of relief. At the rate the dollar is dropping, we might as well just use Monopoly money. The stock market is growling BEAR, BEAR, BEAR. Despite all these disastrous signs, you still appear optimistic about the economy.

"Certainly, Bill. Now what's the question?"

"What are you planning to do to clean up this mess besides offering cash rebates?"

"I'm glad you asked. I'm heading to Disney World. After all, my presidency has been like a fantasy."

"I think you've got that wrong. Your presidency has been more like a nightmare."

"Nevertheless, I'm going to consult with my chief economists."

"And what are their names?"

"I plan to discuss economic issues with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy."

"Doesn't that seem to be completely absurd?"

"Who else can I talk to about our Mickey Mouse economy? I believe that I can get solid advice from Mickey, Donald, and Goofy."

"Well good luck Mr. President. The whole thing sounds pretty goofy to me, but I hope you succeed. Perhaps you might also want to consult with Mary Poppins. I hear that she is performing miracles these days."

"Thanks for the suggestion. Just a Spoonful of Sugar and the Recession will go Down, the Recession will go Down, Recession will go Down. Just a Spoonful of Sugar and the Recession will go Down, just before the November election."

Great article. Nothing says "Danger" more than the crazy up and down action of the stock market since the start of the year.

The pres. did pretty a good job maintaining a strong economy after a major terror attack, a major disruption in Wall St., and a huge war effort..Man I thought I would've had to ration gasoline and wait in mile long gas lines like in the 70's..ahh nothing beats good ol' fiscal responsibility that only a conservative is wiling to manage...I enjoyed your poem. Thanks for the reminder of how fortunate we actually are.

Funny, as always, Steven. I just wonder why any of us expect ONE man to be responsible for every problem America has? What part does the Senate and House of Reps play?

Your article on president Bush and the economy shows why the pres. has a low rating and standing with the public. Very well written , quite hilarious, but sadly you write the truth even in jest..
