Growing your own vegetables can not only be beneficial for your budget but is also a good way to get what your family needs. Before you begin you have to first decide what type of vegetables you want to grow and what you wan to use them for. For example are you looking to grow them just to eat or are you interested in turning a profit with your garden. Either way you will need to know how to plant, cultivate and then harvest your vegetables. Following is a step by step guide on how you can do this right in your own garden.

The first thing that you need to do is choose a location in your yard that you will use for your garden. This location should be directly in the sunlight for most of the day. Once you have decided on your location you will need to test your soil to see what the pH level is. You can buy this at your local Home Depot store or online at their website. They usually come in the form of little kits. The kit will tell you at what level your soil should be for your garden. If your soil is not at the right pH levels the kit you purchased should tell you want you need to add to your soil to get the levels right. After your pH levels are good for gardening you can begin to apply the compost. You want to choose one that will give your plants all of the nutrients it needs to grow strong and healthy.

You can use a till machine to get the compost worked thoroughly into the soil. A hoe will also work will but will take more effort and time. Keep in mind that before you begin to work in the compost you will want to make sure your soil holds together, and is slightly most. Basically the soil should not be too dry or too wet. When you are done your soil should have a nice soft texture. Once the soil is ready you are ready to decide which vegetables you want to plant. Some good vegetables to start with are lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and carrots.
