Distance learning is becoming more and more popular across all spectrums of academic levels and interests. Despite it's expanding scope and popularity, many people don't quite understand the process of taking classes online and pursuing one's degree in that fashion. After studying at New York University for several years in a traditional, on-campus setting I have also taken classes with Drexel University in an exclusively distance learning program. With experience in both settings - traditional on-campus programs and completely online classes - I am in a great position to help others understand distance learning and see if it's an option they should seek out. Here is my list of the 5 best things about distance learning and taking online classes.Work in Your Comfort Zone
With distance learning you are free to study and work from wherever you choose. Throw on a pair of sweatpants, grab a sandwich and get comfortable on your couch, on your bed, on your front porch... wherever you want! Turn on the TV and leave it on Sportscenter if you can multitask. The point is, you can take your online classes in the setting that makes you most at ease and enables you to complete your work as accurately and efficiently as possible.
Never Worry about Moving or Commuting
Many people are hesitant to go back to school or to go to school for the first time because of the logistics of getting to or living at a university. Traditionally your options would have been to sit through hours of traveling or commuting to get to a university where you want to study (if there was not one close by) or to upend your entire life and move to a new place. With the rapidly expanding distance learning opportunities that are present that is no longer a concern. Study at any fully accredited university without moving to a new place or commuting to your classes. Taking classes online affords you the opportunity of studying anywhere you want to, while remaining right where you are.
