Why Running Barefoot in Freshly Cut Grass Can Save Your Life

From the Mouth of Babes

I remember as a child I used to love running through freshly mowed grass for the simple fact that it would turn my feet green. Much to my mother's chagrin, I would do so at every available opportunity. When you look back upon your childhood you begin to see what the Bible means when it says Blessed are the Children.

When we were children, nothing mattered much at all except where you would get your next smile. In spite of being dirt poor during my early childhood, smiles were very easy to come by. There was always a ball to throw, or a ponytail to pull. I had a wonderful creek out behind my house that served as the Amazon. The crayfish made for wonderful crocodiles, and the rocks were my mountains. What if we were able to tap into this childhood power as adults?

I suggest that thinking like a child would certainly behoove many people. I know that some of the people in line at the grocery store would certainly benefit. I watch full grown adults moan about a five minute wait. If they could only think like a child, they would be able to occupy themselves for about five minutes instead of pitching a fit like well, a five-year-old. And what about those people in rush-hour traffic. You cannot tell me that they could not benefit from a few stanzas of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. I think that would be just what the doctor ordered.

The next time you feel stressful, remember that memory way back in the recesses of your mind that put you in your happy place as a kid. It is a source of power against our adult minds. Without this recollection we are powerless against the everyday grind.

When you were a child there was no such thing. Every day was a new one, and totally different from one before or since. It still is, we just do not notice it like we used to. Whatever happened to the crocodiles in our creeks?

Somewhere during the course of turning into an adult we forgot how to truly have fun. We go to work every day and grind it out. We do our shopping, eat supper, and go to bed, just to do it all over again. What fun is that?

I'd rather run barefoot through my freshly cut grass.... How about you?

  • Thinking like a child is the key to happiness.
  • Life does not have to be serious all the time.
  • Crocodiles do exist in your creek.
