You've heard that a person is really known by the company he keeps. Does the same thing hold true for Presidential candidates? There is no doubt that none of us can or should be held accountable for all the mistakes our friends make. We may not even know of all of them. Indeed friends should not be quick to turn their backs on a friend who makes a mistake or is hurting. At what point does a person of influence and power, however, become responsible for an association with a person of questionable character and close involvement with that person-even if he disagrees with the questionable views or actions of the person? In light of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama's past association with members of the American terrorist group, the Weather Underground, these may all be legitimate questions-especially with some reports that he remains friends with former members of the group.

This is in no way written to say the possible future President may not love his country or that he himself promotes terrorism. It is not even to question that he may legitimately condemn the terrorist activities of this domestic terrorist group in his heart, as he now publicly does. In light of his past friendship with members of this group, however, who were known throughout the country to be accused of being terrorists, it might be very fair to question his judgment, and it might also be fair to question whether this man is the kind who can stand up to the international terrorists who want to harm, kill, and maim Americans.

In 1995 the Barack Obama, the possible future leader of the free world, was introduced by Illinois State Senator Alice Palmer to local liberal influential leaders William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. Obama was Palmer's chosen successor. Ayers and Dohrn have both been accused by the FBI of being members of the 1960's ant-war domestic terror group, the Weather Underground.

Takeaways
  • Press reports claim Obama has been friends with members of the Weather Underground
  • Press reports claim he is still friends today with those from the group
  • Obama has condemned the actions of the Weather Underground

There is no such thing as "proof" that he would or would not make a good president. I did not write the article to "prove" he would not be. I wrote it because there are things about him that people should know before voting for him as president--things that would make at least me question his judgment, question whether he would be good for America or not.
