Summer Music Festivals in Europe
Europe hosts some of the world's biggest and best summer music festivals. If you like live music and summer concerts, these festivals are sure to please.
Here are a few of my favorite summer music festivals in Europe:
Oya Music Festival- Indie Rock in Europe
If you dream of a place far from commercial pop and feeder labels, The Oya Festival may be your heaven. Oya Music Festival is Oslo, Norway's biggest Indie Rock festival. Last year's summer festival lineup included indie spectaculars such as Spoon, The Hold Steady, Architecture in Helsinki, and The Jesus and Mary Chain.
The 2008 festival bill is filling up quickly and it's sure to be hot. So far, Sigur Ros, Iron & Wine, My Bloody Valentine, and N.E.R.D. have confirmed. The LA underground scene seems to be big this year as Isis, No Age, and Health are all in the lineup. Of course, there are many planned acts right out of Norway such as Sigh and Explode and Pirate Love.
In 2008, Oya music festival will run from August 5-9 in Medieval Park. You can find more information at http://www.oyafestivalen.com/pages/en
Rock Werchter- Belgium's Best Rock Festival
One name: Radiohead. Rock Werchter has them in 2008. This music festival also has R.E.M., The Hives, Mika, Counting Crows, Ben Harper, The Kooks and various other rockin' bands performing this year.
Rock Werchter is definitely Europe's best summer music festival. The International Live Music Conference recently granted Rock Werchter the award for "best festival in the world."
The festival grounds are Located in Werchter in Rotselaar, Belgium, and camping there is standard. Several campsites are provided at or around the are. Your festival ticket serves as a free pass to get you to Leuven railway station from anywhere else in Belgium. From Leuven railway there is a free bus service that travels to the festival site.
