When you eat out, choosing healthy options on a restaurant menu may seem a bit challenging. With a whole menu filled with high-fat, high-calorie options to choose from, how does one choose a healthy meal? What many people do not realize is that eating sensible does not need to be difficult. Here are some tips on how to eat healthy at Friendly's restaurant.

Consider a Salad

The best way to limit your overall calorie intake and to also fill up with vegetables that are high in fiber is to choose a salad. Friendly's has several different types of salads available for you to choose from. The options include Oriental Chicken Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, Kickin' Buffalo Chicken Salad and Crispy Chicken Salad. Even a Crispy Chicken Salad, which includes chicken strips, is a much better option than chicken strips with fries, which is very high in calories and fat. If you want something more than just a salad, consider opting for a soup and salad combo.

Opt For a Supermelt

Although the pictures of Friendly's Supermelts look incredibly fattening, they do not need to be. There are actually some options which are fairly healthy, especially in comparison to that big burger that you could opt for instead. Some of the options that you may want to consider include the Turkey Supermelt or the Tuna Salad Supermelt. To make a Supermelt even healthier, skip the fries and opt for a side salad instead.

Choose a Sandwich

There are also some fairly healthy sandwiches that can be found on the Friendly's menu, which are all mainly chicken sandwiches. You can pretty much choose from any of the chicken sandwiches on the menu, as long as you ask for grilled chicken instead of crispy strips of chicken, which are deep-fried. If you want to make a sandwich even healthier, skip the fries and ask for a side salad instead.

Be Careful Ordering Burgers

posted the comment below and i forgot to add instead of avoiding the baskets REALLY avoid the ALL the quesidillas. it is a cornstarch wrap sooo fattening. all the quesidillas are 1800 calories and up!

i work as a waitress at friendlys and we FINALLY got a nutrition sheet that lists all the calories and nutrition fact on each food and topping in he restaurant. and our salads are actually one of the most fattening meals on the menu. a chicken strips basket with a side of broccolli and applesauce contains less calories than a crispy chicken salad. dont be fool by what you think might be healthy

I have been having problems leaving comments on my friend's articles, some would go through OK others just kept flashing in a funny way and refusing to leave my comments. This is just to let you know I have been read and enjoyed your piece, but I have to do this with about 2000 of you, having saved all those I wanted to comment on over the last couple of weeks. I am doing this so everyone knows that I have not been ignoring my article alerts and do care about my friends!

I haven't heard of Friendly's but these suggestions can be applied to other places too, I think. Good info for us trying to maintain our figures, or lack thereof.

I've never been to this type of restaurant. I agree that it can be a challenge to eat healthily at restaurants. But it is possible! Sophie
