Prednisone - The Medicine that Provides Pain and Water Gain
In all my years I have never been a fan of taking any type of medication, I became even less of a fan taking medication when my specialist told me I had to take Prednisone. It is the medication you want to take if you don’t want to sleep and want to become fat.
Prednisone is a corticosteroid hormone (glucocorticod). It decreases your immune system’s response to various diseases in order to reduce systems such as swelling and allergic-type reactions. It is used to treat such things as arthritis, blood disorders, breathing problems, certain
types of cancers, eye problems, immune system problems (which I suffer from), and skin diseases. The other name for this medication is Deltasone.
The least of the side effects is the swelling of the feet and ankles and that your face becomes puffy. You can also have problems with headaches, menstrual changes, easy bruising and bleeding, heartburn, increased thirst, irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness and pain, and seizures.
The side effects of this medication drive me absolutely bananas. When I was first prescribed to this medication they gave me so much that I only sleep 2 hours a day, and I wanted to go to bed. I mean I really wanted to go to bed; I wanted my adrenaline to stop pumping.
I also didn’t care for the water gain. I couldn’t exercise fast enough to stop from gaining the weight. I tried going to the gym a couple of times but I was just gaining too much weight to keep the weight down but it was all water. Exercise became depressing.
Mood swings are another unfortunate side effect. I don’t normally have mood swings on a normal basis and I started to get upset with myself when I started having them. When you start crying and despite the fact that I am an emotional person, when you become moodier than normal you know it. When you cry when you are watching television programs you don’t normally cry watching, you know there is a problem.
