The Cleveland Indians entered the American League in 1901 and have been known as the Blues, Bronchus and Naps before settling on the Indians in 1915. Here is a look at the ten greatest moments in Cleveland Indians history.

October 2, 1920. The Indians defeat the Detroit Tigers 10-1 to win their first American League Pennant. Jim Bagby is the winning pitcher

October 12, 1920. The Cleveland Indians win their first World Championship by defeating the Brooklyn Robins 3-0 to win the World Series 5 games to 2. Stan Coveleski is the winning pitcher

April 16, 1940. Bob Feller pitches a no-hitter on opening when he defeats the Chicago White Sox 1-0. It is the only time a no-hitter is pitched on opening day.

October 4, 1948. The Cleveland Indians defeat the Boston Red Sox 8-3 in a one game playoff to win the American League Pennant. Gene Bearden is the winning pitcher and Lou Boudreau hits a 2 run home run

October 11, 1948. The Indians win their second World Championship. They defeat the Boston Braves 4-3 in the 6th game to win the World Series 4 games to 2. Bob Lemon is the winning pitcher and Joe Gordon hits a home run.

September 18, 1954. The Indians win their 107th game to win the American League Pennant. They defeat the Detroit Tigers 3-2. Early Wynn is the winning pitcher. The Indians will finish the season with 111 wins which at the time was an American League record for most wins in season.

April 8, 1975. The Cleveland Indians defeat the New York Yankees 5-3 on opening day as Frank Robinson becomes the first African-American manager in baseball history. Frank Robinson, who is a player-manager, also homers in his first at bat.

September 8, 1995. The Cleveland Indians defeat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 to clinch the American League Central Division title. The Indians advance to the postseason for the first time since 1954. Orel Hershiser is the winning pitcher and Jose Mesa gets the final out for the save.

October 17, 1995. The Cleveland Indians win their first American League Pennant since 1954 when they defeat the Seattle Mariners 4-0. They win the American League Championship Series 4 games to 2. Dennis Martinez is the winning pitcher.
